Little Dreams

I was absent today to catch up on things I needed to do — work, home, school… Trust me, it’s endless. Anyway, I opened the fridge and looked for something to eat. I decided to eat ice cream. I got my sister some and took it to her room. Then while we were eating, we realised how time has flown so fast. It seemed like it was only yesterday when we enjoyed ice cream as kids. We remembered how simple our dreams were back then, and one of them was to buy a fridge of our own and fill it up with food that we loved to eat.

But you see, we’ve never really taken a pause and relished this moment. We realised that our dreams have changed, our wants have changed, and our little dream seemed so little that it vanished from our heads. But now thinking about it, I realised how important it is to look back on our little dreams…for they remind us of how simple life should be.

Have a blessed one, my friends!

Words and Pictures

I am small poem
on a page with room
for another

Share with me
this white field,
wide as an acre
of snow, clear
but for these tiny
markings like the
steps of birds.
Come. Now.

This is the trough
of the wave, the seconds
after lightning,
thin slice of silence
as music ends,
the freeze
before melting.
Lie down beside me.
Make angels.
Make devils.
Make who you are.

I got this exquisite poem from the film, Words and Pictures, directed by Fred Schepisi. It’s interesting how this film elaborates on how rich, complex, and Brobdingnagian art is. There is variety in its unity. It’s as though the grand-master of creation appears to us in many faces. Each of His form is perfect and unique. There is contrast yet complementary.

In response to the film, I would like to share some of my students’ artworks. This gallery is their interpretation of the memoir, Angela’s Ashes. These static images reveal ideas of poverty, hardship, and this desire in us to have better life.

Life — a Vacation!

I wrote a response today to a fellow blogger. I’d like to share it with you to know what your thoughts and feelings are about it. Here’s the response:

It’s good to have some goals and achieve them. Achievements give us a sense of fulfillment, but when you’ve already achieved great things in life, you realize that what matters really is that your living and celebrating life. Life for me is a vacation — something you savor, something you are excited about, something you want to enjoy. No pressures, no worries, just clean fun and silly giggles. 🙂
